The Wanderers Two Blues

The Wanderers Junior Rugby Club was established in 1945 by senior Wanderers members which ultimately led to the establishment of junior rugby in the Newcastle region.

The Wanderers, or Two Blues as they are affectionately known, have a strong focus on creating the right environment for their players and allowing their players to grow not only their rugby skills but also as people.

Their club motto “Fortius Quo Fidelius” meaning “Strength Through Loyalty” forms the backbone of everything they do at the club, especially driving their ‘one club’ mentality.

A huge part of their one club mentality is a focus on building a pathway through the club, which starts right at the very beginning with their pre-rugby Wee Wanderers program (which has been running since 2013) right through to senior rugby.

To support this they offer a variety of player programs including their Accelerated Development Program where the focus is on building better rugby players and better people for the community, their Wanderers Academy which is specialist off season program that is focused on developing Under 16 – Under 20 rugby players so they can “achieve their potential” and during non covid times they also had an Under 16’s rugby tour to develop many skills such as leadership, social skills, self-reliance, commitment, camaraderie, teamwork.

Their younger junior groups participate in the “P1 experience” at the seniors’ home games. Each game, one junior team has the opportunity to attend a first grade match, meeting the players, watching the pre-game warm-up, and then acting as ball boys for the game. They are also given a bit of Wanderers history by club patron, Angelo Agresti. It’s a fantastic way for the younger members of the club to feel part of the bigger picture – and they love meeting the first grade players!

Threading through everything the Wanderers do is a sense of development and growth, both in rugby and sports skills as well as also life skills such as respect, sportsmanship, discipline to name a few.

Pulling on a sky blue and royal blue jersey means you are proud of your club and the amazing opportunities it provides, and the calibre of people working to ensure that every junior player has every chance to learn and grow.

The Wanderers Juniors Club song:
Weeeee
Areeee

Happy Wanderers
We train on rucks and cheers
And as we go
We like to sing
We’ll win the comp this year
Valarie, Valara
Valarie, Valarahaha
Valarie, Valara
We’ll win the comp this year
Blues!
