Singleton Bulls, Love Their Rugby, With a love, as big as the sky

Singleton Bulls, love their rugby, with a love, as big as the sky
Singleton Bulls, love their rugby with a love, that never dies……

The chorus of the Singleton Bulls victory song sums up not only how the Bulls’ players feel about rugby but also how they feel about being a Singleton Bull.

Their passion runs long and deep.

Commencing in 1968 the Singleton Bulls have been enjoying good country rugby for 53 years. In March of 1968 training of the juniors commenced, with an initial 30 players present – making up Under 10s, Under 12s and Under 14s. By the end of the season, there were 75 registered players.

The Senior Club’s colours were adopted, a red jersey with a red collar, black shorts and socks with red and black hoops.

“Throughout junior rugby’s establishment in Singleton, the emphasis was on participation. The boys were encouraged to take pride in their club and to promote its good repute.” From the founding President Ian Dunlop:

“At all times the spirit of Rugby football and its best traditions are to be promoted. It is expected that all players will be aware of the virtues of fitness, good sportsmanship, modesty, tenacity, courage, determination, and discipline, and that a team and Club espirit de corps will be encouraged…”. Excerpt from SJRU Training Directive March 1969.

These are values Singleton Junior Rugby Union continue to promote today and is the foundation for what it means to run onto the field in a Bulls jersey.

They have the utmost pride in their history and their love for good grassroots country rugby is stronger than ever.

The junior Bulls currently have 169 registered players, including Friday Night Train and Play (U5-U7), 9 teams entered in the HJRU competition and 2 Girls Summer 7s teams earlier this year.

The Singleton Bulls have a wealth of talented and quality players and coaches who not only love to win but get great enjoyment out of the life long experiences and friendships generated from their involvement with the club. From the players and their coaches, to the parents, supporters, sponsors and volunteers that are the lifeblood of this proud Club, the pride and the friendships are life long.

Well done Singleton Bulls, keep up the good work.
