Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Club

Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Club, affectionately known as the Gropers, are one of the Hunter’s largest junior rugby clubs. With a passionate and committed committee driving the club forward Nelson Bay Juniors is stronger than ever.

A road trip up to the Bay always guarantees a highly competitive contest for any Hunter opposition. Homegrown talent is the key at the Bay as the Junior Club draws from a large pool of talented young rugby players. The club has a distinctive style of play with fast open play in the back and strong forwards making ground up the centre.

Season 2021 was a successful year for the Gropers with a massive 19 Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Union players selected to play for the Hunter Wildfires from U12s right up to U18s.

The Gropers play at Tomaree No. 1 Matchfield which is always in pristine condition. Game day at Tomaree is always a big day of rugby!

Nelson Bay are a family orientated club and welcome new players every season. Nelson Bay have over 200 registered juniors from U8s up to U18s. The Gropers also have girls teams playing in both the Girls Rugby 7s competition and the Girls Winter Competition.

The spirit of grassroots rugby is alive and kicking at the Bay and I’m sure we will see another big season in 2022.
